What is special education mediation?
Individuals with Disabilities Educational Improvement Act (IDEA) 2004 specifically defines disabilities in terms of educating students with handicapping conditions. Children and youth between the ages of three and twenty one who meet the criteria for one or more of the handicapping conditions receive education based on an IEP (Individualized Education Program). Many times there are issues or conflicts that arise pertaining to the services the students are receiving. When this situation happens, mediation is a form of dispute resolution which can be used to mediate the issues.
